Five Things You May Not Have Known About Greenhouses
Greenhouses are amazing things. They allow rich, beautiful plant life to grow in the harshest, coldest environments. However, there are many things you may not know about greenhouses.
1. Many Greenhouses Are Now Energy Efficient
A good portion of greenhouses are now built with energy conservation in mind. This usually involves the use of geothermal power.
2. Most Greenhouses Are No Longer Made of Glass
Although this was true in the past, many green houses are now made out of much cheaper translucent fiberglass or plastic material.
3. Greenhouses Can Be in the Shade
For perfect growing conditions, a greenhouse shouldn’t be in direct sunlight 24 hours a day. Instead, a better mix is sunlight in the morning and some shade later in the afternoon.
4. Too Much Humidity in a Greenhouse Can Be Bad for Plants
Too much humidity in a greenhouse can be detrimental to the health of many kinds of plants. This includes plants that produce vegetables like tomatoes.
5. Smaller Greenhouses Are Worse for Plants
The smaller a greenhouse is, the quicker it will heat up under the rays of the sun and cool down after the sun goes down. Temperature changes in larger greenhouses are less extreme.
