Canadian Solar Inc, a Guelph, Ontario-based solar power company, hosted a green job fair at its solar module manufacturing facility in Guelph, Ontario on February 11, 2011. Some of the jobs for which the company has openings are for general operators, process technicians, quality engineers, logistic coordinators, and those with PV training school experience.
“Canadian Solar’s Ontario manufacturing facility underscores our commitment to the Canadian market. Attracting top talent will help ensure our competitive edge as we strive to meet the growing demands of Canada’s solar photovoltaic (PV) market,” said Shawn Qu, Canadian Solar President and CEO. “We have a long-term commitment to this important market and have previously announced our selection of Guelph, Ontario as the site of a 200 megawatt solar PV module plant.” He continued, “This facility will be Canadian Solar’s first feed-in-tariff-, domestic content-compliant solar manufacturing plant in Ontario, and is expected to require approximately 500 people to run at full capacity.”
Local Politicians Attend Canadian Solar’s Green Job Fair
To commemorate the occasion, several dignitaries were on hand to celebrate the creation of these new green jobs. One such dignitary, Liz Sandals, MPP for Guelph, commented that, “Canadian Solar is a leader in establishing an Ontario Solar Module Manufacturing facility here in Guelph and it is exciting to see this project move from planning to hiring,” adding that, “Ontario’s feed-in-tariff for renewable energy will continue to create more clean energy jobs and will ensure economic growth in Guelph and across the province not just for today but also for the future.”
Demand for Green Jobs and PV Training School Increases
Due to increased demand for workers at this feed-in-tariff-compliant solar manufacturing plant Guelph and in other places across Ontario, there exist a corresponding increased need for qualified green professionals who have received their solar training through accredited PV classes. Programs like Ontario Solar Academy can certify new students in under one week, with solar classes and installation training opportunities scattered throughout the province.
